As a team lead, I solve problems and clear roadblocks. Cultivating a fertile creative environment and establishing clear process is a vital part of making sure my team can deliver consistent success. Over the years I have developed a working cadence that keeps UX and Product in close alignment and allows the UX team to work out ahead of the day-to-day.
I craft my teams around the idea that product development originates with them. We can drive the conversation through lateral thinking, challenging expectations and testing of new ideas. Always be testing. Always, be testing. I train all my designers to write and analyze their own user tests because there is no greater learning tool as an Experience Designer than watching your work fail in real-time at the hands of your users. Sure, we aim for success, but I welcome failure as a crucial component of creating better user experiences.
